History

Paris Ponds Hatchery Michigan

With abundant fresh water resources and rail connections, the Department of Conservation established The Paris State Fish Hatchery in 1881, supplying salmon and trout fingerlings throughout the state.

It continued to operate until 1964, when it was closed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

The Mecosta County Park Commission acquired it in 1973, refurbished the grounds as a park and opened

it in July 1976.

Now more than ever, the ponds need our help to thrive once more. We’re excited to launch a multi-phase effort to revitalize these historic ponds and preserve them for future generations.

Paris Ponds

Paris Ponds Committee

The Paris State Fish Hatchery continues to evolve as a dynamic destination that celebrates nature, recreation and community spirit. With appropriate funding support allowing for investments in infrastructure, programming and conservation, The Paris State Fish Hatchery is poised to remain a beloved gathering place and natural haven for generations to come.

History has proven that if the ponds and grounds are maintained, visitors will return, bringing with them new generations to create memorable experiences.
